Reinvention and Resilience, Expanding the Possibilities [October 26-27, 2023]

Welcome to our 34 th MJCSC Conference!!! This is our first conference in-person since 2019 and the inception of the pandemic. I don’t know about you, but I cannot wait to be back in- person with you all to experience exciting plenaries, engaging workshops while networking with our staff, colleagues, and community partners. Some of us experienced several losses and we are so sorry about those sad and lasting encounters. Conversely, the pandemic that others of us trudged through with determination and grit appropriately links with this year’s theme- “Reinvention and Resilience-Expanding the Possibilities”. We live this title daily via our dedication and commitment to servant leadership. Additionally, it is closely aligned with our Governor’s and Secretary’s mission of keeping our customers at the forefront in all that we do. Our encounters with the folks we serve is all about elevating them while providing assistance and resources as they move toward expanding their possibilities enroute to self-sufficiency. These impactful experiences and opportunities occur within an atmosphere of ongoing reinvention of our ourselves and our commitment to service. The pandemic showed us the need to revise and revamp the way we do business, and the way we serve and interact with everyone. We are extremely proud of our staff being open to these changes and shifts in service so that our customers (internal and external) would benefit.

We are also thankful for all of the hard work that our Board committees and vendors/sponsors did to make this a successful and meaningful conference-especially the University of Maryland-College Park who is responsible for all of our technology needs. Please make sure you thank our Board members and our various sponsors and vendors when you see them. We want this conference to be a Win-Win situation for all! What do you have to do to be a Winner? Be sure to visit the exhibit hall to meet representatives from our organizations and companies who have so graciously sponsored our conference. Attendees will have many opportunities to win door prizes and/or baskets during the conference. If this is your first time with us, you will have a chance to hear about the great work that the MJCSC does for our state, get an in-depth overview of our conference, and ask questions in an informal and relaxed setting. This will afford you a way to get acquainted with others who are attending for their first time, meet State of Maryland dignitaries, our Board members, staff from other jurisdictions, as well as our community partners. Please enjoy the next couple of days. I am positive that we have something for everyone.
